My initial service to the board began with an informal
commitment to help my adventuresome sister who had been living in Africa for twelve years. My only exposure to the continent
before had been to go to her wedding in South Africa several years ago that included seeing the "Big 5." I envisioned
myself helping to stuff envelopes for this nonprofit in the US.
Now
after a year of working intimately in this grass-roots project, I am wholeheartedly connected to the need for supporting quality
education in Africa --especially for girls. I am an example of the transformation and the power of a vision --in spite of
never having lived in a third world country. Nurturing Minds opens my heart to living more deeply on a daily basis, and energizes
me to share this with others in the United States, encouraging folks to reach out, travel, and realize our oneness. Never
before have we in the developed world had such opportunities to connect to less-developed countries. Today there is a sense
of urgency to bridge the gap between "the haves and the have nots"; so I am grateful to have this opportunity
to help change our world by educating Tanzanian girls.
